What is GRP

What is Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP)?

GRP is the material of choice in many industries. It is used to make a large variety of items from luxury yachts, to parts on buses, trucks and trains, to garage doors, caravans and sports cars. Companies have been making parts out of GRP for over 60 years.

In simple terms, GRP is a mixture of polyester resin with glass reinforcement, coated with a polyester topcoat to give improved aesthetics.

GRP is chosen in many industries for its strength, appearance, weather resistance, longevity and cost and these characteristics make it the optimum choice for roofing. It will be installed by trained contractor and brings many advantages.

  • Fibreglass is a durable replacement for traditional roofing materials such as bitumen, felt and lead
  • Suitable for roof structures, walkways and balconies
  • Remains watertight and maintenance free for many years and can add significant value to a property
  • Sag-resistant pre-pigmented topcoats to ensure an optimum surface finish
  • All our Fibreglass roofs come with a 30 year workmanship and product guarantee
  • Complex roof shapes whether flat, valley or pitched are also easily constructed.
  • Adaptability - Fibreglass can be used on patios, balconies, walkways, roof gardens as well as complex roof shapes. It can be applied up to decking, skylights, pipes, vents, stairs and walls.
  • Cost Effectiveness - it will last for many, many years. It is maintenance-free (no painting required) and can be refurbished if you want. It can be extended if you decide to alter your roof and is easily repaired should it suffer unusual physical damage. It also replaces lead and is of no value to thieves.
  • You can walk on it - Our roofs will tolerate foot traffic and can be made non-slip.
  • Long-lasting - GRP has been used in many applications for over 60 years and has been proven to last a long time. Parts last at least 20 years and many are more than 30 years old. This makes it an ideal choice for a roof. Traditional felt roofs rely on joints or welded seams which are potential failure points. A continuous GRP surface has no joins, no welds and no seams.
